My First Imaginary Portrait

Fashion Illustrations, Little Fashion Paintings

I have a great post for today which is my very first formal portrait! :O It’s a painting that’s intentionally not portraying anyone so any resemblances to a character live or dead is purely coincidental haha! I initially thought her bitchy stare might promise an air of Blair Waldorf’s, but I don’t find it anymore.  What d’you say?

On producing it… well, it was preliminarily sketched during class and the decision to regenerate it into a very colorful girl turned out, to my humble opinion, quite satisfactory, as I’m not very used to drawing, or worse, painting faces. The technique is oil and watercolor after a rather quick pencil sketch that showed the main features and the dress design. As I painted, and moved up from the dress to the face, more detailing had to be dealt with and I used my finest brushes to do the eyes and mouth and had to look up for face illustrations and photography from where to take anything good that could help to enhance a personality. I think the shadows came out good. All the colors are also applied very spontaneously so I don’t really mull over what I expect it to look in the end. I…….never do. If it turns out wrong then I might do it again but only the clothing design and never the pose or scenario (if any!), but that’s a rare case, repeating, and it really depresses me when it happens. It’s big help having a what-does-not-destroy-me-makes-me-stronger philosophy so I can just dispel all negativity and move on. Anyway this is more gibberish than anything else. Hope you like it. 🙂
